Building beautiful games with Corona in a fraction of the time
David
David Rangel is the COO at Corona Labs, where he heads up all business activities and developer outreach.
As of today, GameAnalytics is an official Corona SDK plugin. This makes its integration into the well-known mobile game development platform a matter of a simple library call. In order to celebrate, we have invited Dave Rangel, COO at Corona Labs, to explain all GameAnalytics users out there why the Corona SDK is awesome.
First of all, I’d like to say that we are very excited about our new partnership with GameAnalytics. We believe that having great analytics is one of the most important things a developer can do if they want to have a shot at being successful in today’s mobile world.
Of course, just as important is to build their game or app with the right tool! And that is where Corona SDK comes in. Corona has three key strengths:
1) True cross-platform capabilities: Over the last few years we’ve gone from a world in which there was only one platform at scale that mattered (Windows desktops) to a mobile world where there are two large platforms (iOS and Android), a third one that is gaining market share (Windows Phone 8) and a huge array of devices with different characteristics and that very often do not run in expected ways. Clearly the world is growing more challenging for developers and a cross-platform tool promises to make their lives much easier. At Corona we pride ourselves in being best in class in terms of code re-use. We consistently see that Corona developers are able to share 95%+ of their code when building and publishing to iOS, Android, Kindle and NOOK. And we will soon support Windows too!
2) Rich experiences: Corona has been built from the ground up to support beautiful games and apps. The platform is built on OpenGL 2.0, OpenAL and other industry standards, and the proof is in the games that have been made with Corona. Just take a look at Throne Wars, Chip Chain or Major Magnet, all recent Corona apps, and you’ll see that the sky is the limit when building with Corona. By the way, you can also use Corona to build rich, interactive business apps and utilities.
3) Ease of use and fast development: This is where Corona truly shines. The vision behind Corona has always been to allow developers, of any experience level, to build amazing games and apps as quickly and efficiently as possible. The ability to add physics to your game in 2 lines of code, or to add filters and other advanced graphics with one line of code is just the beginning. It isn’t uncommon for developers to tell us that it took them only a few days in Corona to get feature parity with what they did in weeks or even months on other platforms. We are very proud of this and making our developers as efficient as possible is one of our guiding principles.
Best of all, you can start (and publish) with Corona for free. Just download the Corona SDK from our site and you’ll be up and running in no time. Thanks again to the GameAnalytics team for developing a great product and we look forward to many years of working together!
