Midnite Games, founded by brothers David and Julien in 2020, has made a name for itself in the gaming industry, particularly with its hyper-casual classic, Slices, which boasts over 65 million downloads.
Initially collaborating with publishers, the studio has recently shifted its focus to self-publishing. Their dedicated team currently includes two developers, two designers, two 3D artists, one producer, and a creative director. As of August 2024, Midnite is working on two games, each at different stages of development.
Midnite Studio’s analytics methodology
The studio has been using GameAnalytics since 2015 and it has since become David’s go-to tool for conducting gameplay analysis and health monitoring. Using Custom Dashboards, Health and Funnels, he is able to answer questions like:
- Where does churn occur and what causes it?
- How can we improve the conversion rate for specific events?
- How can we improve the quality of the app performance so our crash rate decreases?
Custom Dashboards
As a power user of custom dashboards, David creates charts displaying their most crucial game data for instant insights across the team. Here you can combine metrics across progression, resource and engagement events to get a comprehensive view of gameplay and identify trends – all without switching tabs.
Health
Using Health, David is able to quickly identify and prioritize performance issues to address. With error reporting, he uses filters to find bugs reported by players and passes the details on to the team to fix. Routinely, they’ll review all errors reported in Health, and prioritize those that seem most detrimental to player satisfaction.
With GameAnalytics’ Pro plan, David has access to quality reports on their Memory and App Boot Time. Using these reports, the team gains an understanding of how long players are waiting to play their game, and whether their RAM is within acceptable limits. With deeper insights into the technical aspects of their game, they can optimize ongoingly for the best player experience.
Funnels
With Funnels, David combines attribution data from Singular with gameplay data from GameAnalytics to gain an understanding of how their acquisition channels perform across the full funnel. With conversion and churn rates, they’re able to identify challenges with progression and pinpoint specific areas that impact player behaviour – helping the team prioritize their upcoming work based on data-driven insights.
Funnels are really well implemented.
GameAnalytics has enabled Midnite Games to track and optimize every aspect of their game development over the last 9 years – from player behavior to performance issues, ensuring their games not only succeed but continue to evolve with data-driven insights.
