GameAnalytics Product Update: September 2019

We've recently updated the GameAnalytics platform. To get you up to speed with what's new, we've listed all of the most recent changes here.

We know it’s been a couple of months since our most recent product update (thanks for being so patient with us), so let’s get you back up to speed with the latest changes to our tool and family of SDKs.

To fill you in, we’ve listed out what we’ve improved within GameAnalytics tool, big or small. If you have any questions about anything, or feel like we’ve missed something, feel free to email us at support@gameanalytics.com and we’ll get back to you right away.

Filter Picker UI Improvements

We’ve redesigned the way you can add filters to metrics, introducing new features and improving the user experience:

    • More screen space allowing you to view 2 selection columns at all times – it’s now easier to view your hierarchy of game events and select the right ones.
    • View your selected attributes as you build your filters.
    • Global Search: search within an entire category.
    • Active Search: search within the active selection column.
    • Weekly and monthly cohorts can now be added as a filter, from within the Cohorts category.
    • Levels can now be added as filters, without having to select each start/complete/fail event.

Playtime

We’ve added a new metric, Playtime, with the below aggregations:

    • Sum: total time spent in the game, across all players.
    • Mean Per User: average time spent in the game, per user.
    • Mean Per Session: average time spent in the game, per session.

Session Count: Mean per User

We’ve added a new aggregation to the Session Count metric: Mean per User.

    • The average (mean) number of sessions completed by a user.

Fixes

  • Improved the visibility of hover over tool-tips.
  • Fixed the issue where one less day’s data was shown when grouping by events.

Cohorts

  • Improved the speed at which data loads within the table, when no filters are added.
  • Fixed the issue where the mean for each column was being incorrectly calculated for some metrics.

Engagement Dashboard

  • Added the widget: Playtime – Mean per User.
  • Added the selection: Session Count – Mean per User.

Resource Dashboard

  • Widgets that have splits “by item id” now work correctly.

What’s on the horizon?

We’re constantly updating and improving our tool, and we want to be clear with you about what we’re working on. That being said, here are some of the key improvements, features, and fixes that you’ll be able to see in the platform soon.

Cohorts Beta

We’ve been working on a brand new Cohorts tool, with an updated user interface and new features. We’ve now got to the point where it’s really valuable for us to get some fresh eyes and honest feedback. So if you would like to get access to the beta – please reach out to us at support@gameanalytics.com.

Remote Configs

We’re building a new Remote Configs tool that we plan on releasing in October. This too will contain an updated user interface, as well as an increase in the limit of active configs to 10.

If you’re using Configs, you’ll need to update to the latest SDK (once available). There will be a migration period where both versions of Remote Configs will be available for a limited amount of time. For further information, please keep an eye out for upcoming announcements and blog posts.

If you have any trouble using the new GameAnalytics platform, or just want to learn more about it, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Our support team is available to answer any questions, investigate any issues, or even give you a tour of the tool.
